County ad hoc reports progress on encampment tracking and Cal Fire fuel reduction plans

County staff reported to the Board of Supervisors that the homelessness ad hoc committee has advanced several operational steps: selecting a mapping/tracking platform, enlisting volunteer fire chiefs to help identify encampment locations, coordinating unannounced site visits and arranging for Cal Fire crews to perform fuel reduction and vegetation management on three county-owned parcels in Weaverville.
CEO Trent Chatel (identified in the record as the CEO) briefed the board on the ad hoc's Feb. 6 meeting. Staff recommended using an existing crisis-tracker platform already used by the county's Office of Emergency Services to log encampment locations; the platform was selected in part because it has sufficient features and would not add cost. Volunteer fire department chiefs agreed to provide encampment-location information for the tracking tool, and the county's probation department agreed to lead several site visits.
Chatel said a draft ordinance addressing encampments is in development and will be reviewed by the full ad hoc on March 6. He also reported Cal Fire crews walked three county parcels on Feb. 10, agreed to a fuel-reduction and vegetation-management scope of work and, weather permitting, are expected to begin work within about two weeks.
Ending: The board scheduled the ad hoc's next meeting for March 6 to review the ordinance draft and tracking approach; staff said community outreach materials are being developed by HRN and the county PIO.
