Swansea committee postpones FY26 budget hearing; schedules joint A&F meeting

The Swansea School Committee postponed its fiscal year 2026 budget public hearing to Tuesday, March 4, 2025, after a committee member, Joanne Rebello, was called away for a family emergency.
Superintendent Scott Holcomb notified the committee that Rebello's father was at end of life and that she had asked the committee to move the hearing to a date on which she could attend. The committee voted to postpone the FY26 budget hearing to March 4, 2025 at 6 p.m. at Joseph Case High School.
Committee members and Holcomb also recommended and then approved posting a joint meeting with the town's A&F board on March 5 so committee members would not inadvertently run afoul of open-meeting restrictions while speaking at the A&F presentation. The committee set the joint meeting for 6 p.m. at the police station and approved the plan by unanimous voice vote.
During discussion, the chair noted the budget subcommittee had met previously and that the committee should present the budget to the A&F board the night after the March 4 hearing. Committee members said they would coordinate presentations to avoid repetitive public testimony and to preserve the superintendent's role in advocating the budget to the A&F board.
