City of Atoka lake patrol cites staffing shortages and requests UTV in budget

Chief Dawson of the City of Atoka advised the Lake Atoka Reservation Authority that the lake patrol's biggest ongoing challenge is staffing and that a utility terrain vehicle (UTV) purchase is included in this year's budget proposal to help reach previously inaccessible or closure areas.
"The biggest struggle right now is continuing with personnel, trying to keep staffing up. It's a challenge everywhere," Chief Dawson said, adding that "one thing that I have included in this year's budget is [the] purchase of a UTV." He told the authority the UTV would allow officers to access areas they previously could not reach and to better address unauthorized access points.
Chief Dawson's remarks were presented as part of the city of Atoka's lake patrol and activity report. No board questions were recorded in the transcript following his comments.
