Superintendent announces principal transfer, pre‑K enrollment and CTE internships at Feb. 25 meeting

During the Feb. 25, 2025 meeting of the Charlotte‑Mecklenburg Board of Education, Superintendent Dr. Hill announced a personnel change and provided routine district updates including enrollment and career‑technical education highlights.
Dr. Hill announced that Dr. Nathan Curry, currently principal at Bruns Avenue Elementary School, "will be the new principal at Turning Point High School." Dr. Hill said Dr. Curry brings more than 27 years of experience in education, including prior principal roles and central office leadership.
Dr. Hill also reported that applications for Charlotte‑Mecklenburg Schools pre‑K for the 2025–26 school year are open and encouraged families to visit the district website for details. On career and technical education, she highlighted students in the hospitality pathway at West Mecklenburg High School who "recently completed internships with the Ritz Carlton and Marriott hotels" and logged more than 1,800 hours of experience.
Other operational and engagement announcements included an early student release on Feb. 26 and a project update meeting for Second Ward High School on Feb. 27 at Hawthorne Academy of Health Sciences. Dr. Hill also noted the district’s upcoming community budget information sessions and a recent quarterly partnership meeting attended by about 150 partners.
Correction on JROTC enlistment credit: at the end of the meeting Dr. Hill corrected an earlier answer on enlistment rank, saying, "If students have 3 years of JROTC, they enter 2 ranks above students that have not gone through the 3 year program."
