District officials and the professional development director summarized midyear professional learning activities at the Feb. 19 board meeting and presented participant feedback from the Jan. 7 PD day.
“Kiley Garen, Director of Professional Development” led the report and said the January day offered differentiated, school‑led PD for licensed staff and a conference‑style program for classified employees, with roughly 55 classified sessions at Mountain View High School.
Garen said survey responses showed high satisfaction: “95% of licensed staff respondents reported that they felt that the January 7 PD aligned to, or somewhat agreed or strongly agreed that the PD aligned to, the major improvement strategies identified at their school,” she read from the feedback summary. Licensed staff also reported that school‑wide common language and universal practices were among the highest‑value takeaways.
Classified staff responses emphasized practical, job‑specific training (for example, Medicaid documentation and Infinite Campus), requests for more advanced or repeated sessions and some logistics concerns (sound systems and session capacity). Garen said classified sessions are largely delivered by district staff and that organizers try to repeat popular sessions during the day when possible.
The presentation included a running tally of PD sessions and hours and noted continuing efforts to align PD to school needs, certification requirements and the district’s STRIVE 2025 human‑talent priorities. Board members asked about substitute coverage and how the district decides which improvement suggestions to implement; Garen said staff follow up on nearly all classified feedback and coordinate licensed PD with Learning Services for curricular and school needs.
Board members praised the PD structure and emphasized the role of school leadership and peer presenters in building sustainable, school‑level practice changes.
