Mr. Slade, representing the athletic boosters, told the board both the boys' and girls' swim teams placed first in regional competition and left this morning for Raleigh, where swimmers will compete in state championships.
"Our girls are looking for a repeat in the state championship, and our boys are looking hopefully for their first state championship run," Slade said. He noted divers competed that day and that he did not yet have results.
Spring sports for middle school begin Monday and high school sports start Wednesday. Slade also updated the board on the state high-school athletic realignment process: an initial draft placed Lake Norman Charter with Cabarrus and Rowan schools, appeals have been filed, and another draft is expected next week. "Ultimately, it's a state decision," he said.
No board action was taken on athletics items during the open session.
