Commission agrees to rely on planning commission record for Skyline Drive rezoning; first reading scheduled for April 10

The Maysville Board of Commissioners voted to rely on the planning commission record in considering a rezoning request for the Stanley Reed House (also described as Newnigate Tavern) from single-family residential (R-1) to general business (B-1).

Staff told commissioners the planning commission held a public hearing and approved the rezoning request 6–1 and that the planning record would form the basis for the city’s decision unless the commission chose to hold a separate public hearing. Planning staff recommended relying on the record; one commissioner asked whether new testimony would change the process.

Commissioner discussion noted the historic nature of the property and support for preservation and reuse. The board voted to adopt the planning commission’s record and not hold a new public hearing; staff said an ordinance approving the change will be prepared for a first reading on April 10. The planning commission’s findings of fact and recommendation of law will be appended to the city’s record for any reviewability issues.
