Exeter School District board approves multiple policy updates, withdrawals and enters nonpublic session

The board approved revised policies IHAM (Health Education and Exemption from Instruction) and IGE (Parental Objections to Specific Course Material) after a motion and second; board discussion noted the policies must use statutory language addressing “sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, and gender expression” as reflected in the state statute cited in the packet. The board also adopted an updated emergency-closings policy (EBCD) and a new school-year/calendar policy (IC) that aligns calendar naming to the referenced RSA provision noted in the meeting materials.
The board changed the title and language of an existing policy, renaming “Special Observance Days” to ACD, Commitment to Religious Neutrality, and approved the wording change with a friendly amendment to remove a bolded section heading. Members also adopted a revised IMDA policy on the Pledge of Allegiance, which confirms set-aside time and voluntary participation, and approved ACAC, the district’s prohibitions on harassment and related grievance procedures, revised to align with federal guidance referenced by district counsel.
Separately, the board voted to withdraw four policies from the manual (ACDR, ICA, IKF and ILBAA) because their provisions are now incorporated into the updated policies or are not needed in the elementary policy manual.
The board moved into a nonpublic session under RSA 91-A:3,II(A) to address a personnel matter at 7:26 p.m.; the board returned to public session at 7:52 p.m. and subsequently voted to accept the support team’s recommendation that emerged from that nonpublic discussion.
Other routine business approved included the minutes of the Feb. 4 meeting and several committee procedural items. The board recorded the votes by voice (motions were moved and seconded on the record; individual named vote tallies were not recorded in the public transcript).
