Summer camps sold out at Keller Point; parkrun and community events drawing volunteers and regional attention

Recreation staff told the board that Keller Point’s full-day summer camp session opened for registration and sold out in roughly 12 hours, and that half-day enrichment camps remain open.

Staff highlighted several near-term community programs: a teen electric egg hunt on April 11, a Good Friday underwater egg hunt for young children, and the Fit City Challenge (being coordinated with Southlake) moved to May. Staff asked board members to promote events and volunteer if possible.

Parkrun and the Nina Run: board members described strong volunteer interest in parkrun activities and said Keller’s parkrun attracts out-of-town participants. The board discussed the “Together for Nina” run in April, encouraged members to recruit volunteers and noted the Rotary Club will provide food. One board member said community donations for Nina have exceeded expectations and that the event is meant to be no-charge with optional donations to Nina.

Volunteer recruitment and apparel: staff reminded members to provide shirt sizes; the board discussed creating a long-sleeve option for volunteers and handing out existing short-sleeve shirts to newer members when inventory permits. Parkrun volunteers and the Keller Point staff team were credited for helping parkrun become a local model.

Other community items: staff said teen programming and other regular activities are in development and that parkrun organizers are receiving inquiries from other cities who aim to replicate Keller’s model. The board also noted a city employee kickball tournament scheduled for March 27 at the sports park, which staff encouraged members to attend as spectators.
