Independent auditor gives Houston County Schools a clean opinion on FY2024 financial statements

An external auditing representative told the Houston County Board of Education that the district received a clean audit opinion for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2024, and that selected federal expenditures and the school nutrition program were in compliance with applicable requirements.
Hope Pendergrass of the audit firm (identified in the meeting as Malding and Jenkins) told the board, “You all received a clean audit opinion, which is what you want, meaning that your financial statements were materially correct.” She said the auditors also rendered an opinion on federal expenditures and reviewed the school nutrition program, and that they “found everything to be in order.”
Pendergrass told the board the district’s audited federal expenditures were about $59,000,000 in the prior year and that auditors review selected federal programs rather than every line item. She also commended the business office staff by name and asked the board to recognize their stewardship of district funds.
The presentation preceded routine business items and recognitions and did not include any formal audit qualifications or findings requiring corrective action issued during the meeting.
