Houston County Schools honor long‑service employees, student achievers and donate $198,622 to United Way

The district opened formally with a years‑of‑service ceremony led by Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources and District Operations Dr. Chris Brown, who said, “Your dedication to our students in our district has played a vital role in helping us achieve our mission of high achievement for all through continuous growth.” The board and district presented plaques and gift bags to employees marking 30 and 35 years of service and acknowledged a group of sponsors that funded the reception.
The recognition period included student and staff honors from several schools: Matt Arthur Elementary students Maximus and Sashri Patel led the pledge; principals from multiple schools introduced their “students of the year,” athletic award winners and teachers of the year; and district directors recognized winners from DECA and All‑State Band selections. Notable student honors included state winners advancing to national DECA competitions and several All‑State Band designees from Houston County High, Perry High, Northside High, Veterans High and other schools. Coaches and directors introduced state wrestling champions and state title winners in other extracurricular contests.
The district also presented a community donation. Superintendent Dr. Mark Scott presented a check for $198,622.10 to the United Way of Central Georgia. A United Way representative thanked the district for the campaign and said the system’s volunteer energy and staff fundraising make Houston County one of United Way’s largest local campaigns.
Board Chair remarks and principal introductions occupied a substantial portion of the meeting before the board moved into its business agenda. The recognition segment combined district employee milestones, student and teacher honors, and community fundraising into a single ceremony before routine board actions followed.
