Keller Sports Park 55% complete; baseball fourplex, splash pad remain major milestones

The parks project remains active across the site: staff reported the splash pad work has begun, outfield fences were being repositioned on fields 11 and 12 to make room for the splash pad, shade-structure roofs were being installed, and the north multipurpose field was being sodded. “Keller Sports Park is 55% complete,” a city staff member said. “They are working pretty steadily now on the splash pad, and they've also started moving the softball field outfield fences to make room… All the shade structures now have roofs.”
Why it matters: the board discussed which parts of the park are already usable and which pieces remain to enable full operation of all programs. Staff said soccer is “pretty much done” aside from minor parking-lot items, and soccer teams have already begun spring play. Lacrosse still needs electrical connections for scoreboards, and baseball and softball will require sod or synthetic turf before full programming can move to the new fields.
Most urgent items and schedule: staff said the Baseball Fourplex is the last major component and “will be ready by January,” and that the splash pad team had begun pile or pier work and moisture conditioning. Contractors are completing utilities and final underground work; Tri County crews were completing bridal/bridle connections and transformer trenching and getting their underground work into place. The trail around the baseball complex is roughly three-quarters complete.
Facilities and operations details: staff said some disciplines have already been allowed to use fields where safe and ready—soccer and lacrosse practices and early season games have started in portions of the park—but rugby and football do not yet have an available multipurpose field. Board members and staff also discussed where finishing overlays will be done (whether in one final pass or staged) and that scoreboards had not yet arrived for several fields.
Budget and construction pace: staff said the project had been roughly one month behind schedule earlier in the work but crews were “catching up pretty quick.” The board noted that drainage elements such as box culverts had been a major cost driver on prior trail and park projects, and that decisions about pipe versus open ditch would affect both costs and tree impacts at related trail segments.
Votes at a glance: The meeting approved routine housekeeping items. The board voted to approve the previous meeting minutes (motion, second; all in favor) and later voted to adjourn the pre-session (motion, second; all in favor). Those procedural motions passed without recorded dissent.
Next steps: staff said remaining work will focus on field surfacing, final paving and utility and scoreboard installations, with continued coordination as contractors move from one parcel to another.
