San Luis — The City Council adopted Ordinance No. 460 amending San Luis City Code section 13.30.010 to reduce the setback distance for wastewater treatment plants from 100 feet to 50 feet and to add required language about odor, noise and aesthetics.
Joe Vera, director of Public Works, explained the change is intended to align the city code with the Arizona Administrative Code and to support the West Wastewater Treatment Plant expansion and the city’s submittal to the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ). Vera said the 2006 ordinance had reduced setbacks from 1,000 feet to 100 feet but did not include the administrative-code language on odor, noise and aesthetics; Ordinance 460 adds that language and further adjusts the setback to 50 feet to reflect the distances between odor-generating plant infrastructure and adjacent property lines.
Vera introduced Mike Krebs, a design engineer with PACE, who was available to answer technical questions. The council voted to read Ordinance 460 by title and later voted to adopt it. The motion to adopt carried with four ayes and one abstention.
