San Luis adopts $956,478.50 border-support grant and approves purchase of six police SUVs

San Luis — The City Council adopted Order No. 2025-04 to accept a Local Border Support Grant administered through the State of Arizona Department of Public Safety and approved purchases of equipment funded by the award, including six 2025 Ford Police Interceptor Explorers.
Police Lieutenant Emmanuel Mateo told council the grant award totals $956,478.50 and covers equipment purchases; the grant term runs from July 1, 2024, through June 30, 2026. Mateo said the funds are specific to border-security enhancement equipment and are separate from Operation Stone Garden.
Separately, Lieutenant Emmanuel Botello presented a request to purchase six 2025 Ford Police Interceptor Explorer models for law enforcement patrol and investigations. Botello said the vehicles are intended to replace fleet cars more than 10 years old and with over 100,000 miles each. He said the city will purchase the vehicles through a vendor that holds a state contract (Peoria Ford) because local dealers could not meet the city’s delivery timeline.
Council approved adoption of the order and the vehicle purchase(s). The purchase authorization carried with a not-to-exceed total of $320,000 for six vehicles. Council members recorded ayes and the chair declared the motions carried.
