San Luis awards $74,929 contract to Celis Development for B Street City Building remodel

San Luis — The San Luis City Council voted to award a construction contract to Celis Development (doing business as Southwest Plumbing Air) for the B Street City Building remodel, with the contract amount not to exceed $74,929.
Edgar Juarez, facilities project coordinator, told council Celis Development was the lowest responsive bidder among three bids. The remodel scope includes interior and exterior painting, new flooring, ventilation and electrical work, restroom modernization and relocation of a wall to enlarge a conference room. The city will lease the remodeled facility to the Greater Yuma Port Authority; the port authority will reimburse the city $70,000 of the project cost.
Juarez said the project is expected to take approximately two and a half months and must be completed before the end of the fiscal year. He said the contractor expects to begin after the city's standard 10-day notice period and was available to sign the contract.
A council member moved to award the contract; the motion was seconded and carried. During the roll call vote, Council member Luis Cabrera and Council member Lizette Cervin recorded “Aye,” Council member Maria Cecilia Cruz recorded “I abstain,” the vice mayor recorded “Aye,” and the mayor recorded “Aye.” The mayor declared the motion carried.
