Cameron Amati of Public Works told the council the demolition follows asbestos abatement and clears the site to prevent vandalism and unlawful occupation while preparing the lot for future construction. The RDA had previously budgeted $10 million toward Central Station in its FY2026 plan.
The council and RDA voted separately but identically to award the demolition contract for an amount not to exceed $3,534,997 and authorized the mayor to sign. The contractor is expected to mobilize in April. Public Works Director Keri Koski told the council the project aligns with the citys larger vision for the site and that design work for the Central Station will proceed while demolition creates a cleared, buildable parcel.
