Port Angeles School District maintenance staff and board members on March 13 publicly recognized Nolan as he moves from Director of Maintenance into a Director of Capital Projects role.
Josh Winters, speaking on behalf of maintenance and grounds staff, described Nolan as a leader who shares knowledge, equips the crew and leads by example. “He keeps our crew informed... he takes those opportunities to give us the guidance we need to make us successful,” Winters said.
Board members and staff recounted examples of Nolan’s hands‑on work maintaining aging facilities, pursuing levies and bonds that enabled construction of three new schools, and supporting staff morale. Nolan addressed the board, noting a long career that began in 1983 and saying the change is “bittersweet” but expressing excitement for the upcoming capital work.
Separately during remarks about capital projects, district staff confirmed an early bid package for the Stevens project is out and said a groundbreaking is scheduled for April 12. The district also said early civil work will begin soon and that public bid openings are scheduled in April for the early package.
The board’s recognition followed a consent‑agenda item that acknowledged Nolan’s personnel change. Staff and board members invited the community to the April 12 Stevens groundbreaking and thanked the maintenance team for their ongoing work.
