School committee approves annual residency recertification forms

The Canton School Committee voted unanimously to approve the district’s residency-recertification forms at its Feb. 6 meeting.
Superintendent Follin described the practice as a long-standing district policy that requires families to recertify residency at initial enrollment (kindergarten) and again at sixth and ninth grades. Follin said Canton policy requires students to be Canton residents and physically sleep in Canton to attend Canton Public Schools and that staff periodically review and investigate residency claims. Brett McLeod, the district’s enrollment and residency staff member, was thanked for administrative support of the process.
The committee voted 5–0 to approve the forms with updated due-date language for May 30 of the 2025–26 school year. Committee members emphasized the importance of regular review of residency to protect district resources and ensure correct enrollments.
