Canton committee reviews annual town report and gives update on Galvin Middle School project

Superintendent Folan and central-office staff presented highlights from the district’s annual town report and updates on the Galvin Middle School project during the virtual meeting.

The annual report is a calendar-year summary, cross-cutting two school years, that the superintendent described as a historical document recognizing staff, retirees and student achievements. The superintendent noted the district met an internal student-achievement growth goal for its lowest-performing students (a 3% gain versus a 2% goal), and reported a high pass rate for Advanced Placement work during a year of increased participation. The report also memorializes completion steps and recognition for the Galvin Middle School project.

PowerSchool and other operational items Staff noted the district’s transition to PowerSchool as the student information system and acknowledged prior cybersecurity work; the superintendent thanked staff who led that transition. The report also includes district highlights such as scholarships, staff retirements and community partnerships.

Galvin Middle School project Project staff and the design team are conducting more detailed classroom-level design reviews with teachers and participating in logistics planning for construction work this summer. The superintendent said the project team will brief local public-safety and logistics stakeholders in a forthcoming meeting to coordinate summer work and campus access.

Next steps The annual town report is finalized for distribution; staff said they will continue design work with teachers and share detailed designs with the committee as they are produced.
