The Sharon School Committee voted unanimously on March 5 to authorize Sharon Public Schools to join a regional education collaborative effective July 1, 2025.
Committee members said the district will gain online learning seats, discounted professional development and university tuition for staff, reduced tuition for special-education placements, and access to cooperative purchasing. ‘‘The assessment last year was around $10,000,’’ Peter said while describing the collaborative’s expected fees and benefits. He said the district’s share would likely be offset by use of seats and cooperative services.
The vote authorizes the district chair to sign the collaborative agreement with the other member districts. Alan made the motion; Dan seconded it, and the roll call returned unanimous support.
Supporters said the membership creates access to student internship and career-exploration programs and data-privacy safeguards; some board members asked for a later accounting of realized savings. The committee recorded no dissenters and concluded the item quickly before moving on to the budget discussion.
The committee will finalize administrative steps after the agreement is signed and will receive follow-up information about member fees and the collaborative’s exact assessment for FY26.
