Lake Elsinore Unified tells Canyon Lake council TK and kindergarten enrollment underway; district highlights safety upgrades and extracurricular success

At the council meeting Dr. Tricia Thompson, director of student support services for Lake Elsinore Unified School District, told the Canyon Lake City Council that transitional kindergarten (TK) and kindergarten enrollment has opened and that all district schools now offer TK.
“We are getting started,” she said, asking residents to enroll children who turn 4 or 5 after the September 1 cutoff as eligible for TK or kindergarten. Thompson said the district also continues hiring to staff expanding programs and pointed attendees to EdJoin for openings.
Thompson outlined recent school safety upgrades, including vestibules and glass partitions in front offices to limit unauthorized access. She described before‑and‑after‑school care (“e‑law program”) to support working parents and said the program complements TK and kindergarten classrooms.
Thompson highlighted student and staff achievements: multiple CIF athletics finalists and champions, doubled student placements in the county science fair from prior years, and a record response rate to the district’s Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) survey, which she said indicates increased civic engagement.
The district thanked local volunteers and organizations and said Dr. Thompson and team will attend upcoming community events. Council members welcomed the presentation and invited district staff to continue monthly appearances.
