DPMS holds first concert of 2025 with sixth-grade choir, concert choir and a cappella group

DPMS held its first concert of 2025, director Carl Tinsmeyer said, featuring performances by the sixth-grade choir, the concert choir and an a cappella ensemble.

The program opened with the sixth-grade choir's first performance at DPMS, which included Yo Vivo Cantando, Old Joe Clark and the Disney song How Far I'll Go. "I am so excited to share this program of music with you," Director Carl Tinsmeyer told the audience.

The concert choir performed Chantal de Moulin, Little Creek and closed its set with Mr. Blue Sky by the Electric Light Orchestra. Sarah Colface, a member of the concert choir, said, "We are so lucky and grateful to have Mr. T as our director." Tinsmeyer told the audience he had given the concert choir 65 pages of music this semester and praised the students for mastering it.

Guest and student instrumentalists supported several numbers: Matt Wilson played drum set for Mr. Blue Sky, Liam Schneider played electric guitar, and Hiram Pullman accompanied the a cappella group on piano. The a cappella ensemble performed City Called Heaven, described in the program as an African American spiritual, with soloists Chloe Hickok and Cameron Bobakar. Tinsmeyer said the a cappella group has rehearsed the set for two to three months and will attend a festival at Union Middle School on Wednesday to receive judges' feedback and seek qualification for state competition.

Melissa Thorne, identified in the program as the choir director at Corner Canyon, accompanied parts of the concert; Tinsmeyer noted that many students will move to her program in about four months. The concert ended with Contar, a Cuban folk/salsa piece featuring soloists Sachi Real and Sophie Christiansen.

Tinsmeyer closed by thanking attendees and announcing the school's final concert of the year, a Pops concert scheduled for May 8.
