County highway staff told the Infrastructure Committee that Marathon County ran its first electronic bid openings of 2025 using the Bid Express platform and that the new process worked well.
Staff said the platform allows vendors to submit secure bids online and that staff cannot view bids before the advertised opening time. The committee heard vendor participation remained similar to prior years and that county staff distributes invitations to a bidders list. Staff reported average price increases of roughly 3 percent for asphalt and similar increases for pulverizing and milling compared with last year; detailed bid tabs were included in the committee packet.
Committee members asked whether participation levels matched past years; staff said participation was “pretty much all the same bidders.” No action was required; the committee received the update.
