County highway staff asked the committee to recognize Work Zone Awareness Week (April 20–25) and to support outreach and enforcement coordination with the sheriff’s department. Staff told the committee that Marathon County recorded 161 work‑zone accidents between 2020 and 2024 that resulted in 46 injuries; those figures include contractor work zones and do not indicate county‑employee injuries. When asked, staff said no Marathon County employees were recorded as injured among those 161 incidents.
Committee members urged continued emphasis on public education and enforcement; one member noted anecdotal examples — including bus drivers recording license plates — to illustrate drivers failing to slow in work zones. Supervisor Dickinson moved to approve the resolution; Supervisor Soybert seconded. The committee approved the motion by unanimous voice vote and will forward the resolution to the county board.
