Michigan City public works plans BZA procedural review; board approves corrected 2025 meeting schedule

Wendy Vache, the new director of public works for Michigan City, told the Board of Zoning Appeals on March 11 that the city will undertake a cross-board review of processes and procedures, followed by a community workshop and a potential approval of consolidated standards in June.
Vache said the review is intended to align procedures across boards, make information easier for the public to find, and prepare an updated outward-facing schedule and materials for a new city website. She gave a timeline: March — staff and counsel review and consolidate comments; April — internal departmental review and alignment; April–May — board and community workshops; and by June — potential board approval, contingent on board input.
Separately, the board voted to approve its regular meeting schedule for 2025, with a correction to the November date (moved to Nov. 17) and a corrected October meeting date (Oct. 14). Board member Deborah Vance moved to accept the 2025 schedule as corrected; Kathy Stransky seconded. A roll-call vote recorded unanimous approval.
Vache also noted April’s meeting would be canceled due to lack of business; members agreed to publish the corrected schedule so the public knows meeting dates and locations. The director said the procedural review would include peer review among departments and would be followed by an outward-facing workshop for the public.
