Lehi fiber crews will drill small exterior hole to route cable and install ONT

Installation crews for the Lehi fiber network will arrive at customers’ homes at their previously scheduled installation time, determine the best location to route fiber, drill a small exterior hole if needed and install an optical network terminal (ONT), a recorded service message from provider Cruise said.
The announcement said the crews will “visit with you to determine the best installation location” and, once an entry point is chosen, “bring the fiber from the outside of your home to the interior of your home.” The message added: “To do this, Cruise will poke a small hole in an exterior wall that the fiber can fit through.”
The provider described the ONT as the fiber equivalent of a modem. “You can think of the ONT as a modern day modem for fiber Internet,” the recording said. After installation, Cruise will plug directly into the ONT to run a speed test to confirm the connection is working; customers can then connect the ONT to their router.
The message advised that for the best experience with fiber technology customers “may need to upgrade your router” and to “speak directly with your Internet service provider to determine the best router for you.” It also said a standard Lehi fiber installation is scheduled for two hours.
The announcement was informational and did not reference any formal city action, costs, permitting requirements or alternatives to drilling a small exterior hole. Residents with questions about the installation process or router compatibility were directed to contact their Internet service provider.
