The proclamation noted local volunteers’ weekly responses to home fires, support for service members and families at Naval Station Everett and contributions to national and international disasters.
Alex Newman, executive director of the Northwest Washington chapter of the American Red Cross, thanked the council and described the chapter’s local reach, saying the office is headquartered near Everett and that local volunteers responded to 70 disaster events over the last fiscal year and supported hundreds of units of blood collection in Everett. "This really means a lot to us," Newman said, and added the chapter values partnerships with local governments.
The proclamation was moved and seconded and adopted by unanimous roll call. The council thanked local Red Cross volunteers and indicated continued partnership on disaster preparedness and community resilience.
