Oklahoma County Citizens Advisory Board introduces new members, discusses subcommittees and upcoming meeting

The Citizens Advisory Board for the Oklahoma County Detention Center opened its meeting with introductions from newly appointed advisory members and a short governance update.
Reverend Dr. Christine Byrd introduced herself as a local pastor and said she joined the board to “be a voice for the community” and to press for dignity and fairness in the county’s criminal‑justice system. Jeff Dismukes, executive director of the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance of Oklahoma, said he brings 25 years of behavioral‑health experience and wants to advocate for stigma reduction and connections between criminal justice and community resources. Jimmy Durant, director of government affairs for SSM Health St. Anthony Hospital, said he hopes to “make sure that everyone's voice is heard when it comes to criminal justice” and to improve communication among stakeholders.
Early in the meeting the board voted to approve minutes from the previous meeting (May 8, 2024). The recorded tally was 4 in favor and 1 opposed.
Board leadership asked members to consider serving on one of four standing subcommittees—recruitment and retention, community relationships, policies and procedures, and operations—and to nominate additional community members for those groups. The board noted that each subcommittee must be majority‑cab members and that some prior chairs have left or moved to the Trust, requiring a refresh of membership lists and outreach by subcommittee chairs.
The board set its next meeting for April 16 at 11 a.m. in the same meeting room. Several agenda items (10–13) were deferred for later discussion, and staff said they will follow up with committee rosters and meeting schedules in the coming week.
