Thornton council interviews two candidates for arts, sciences and humanities board; staff to follow up

The Thornton City Council on the evening roster interviewed two applicants for open seats on the Thornton Arts, Sciences and Humanities Council (TASHCO), heard answers about fundraising and community outreach experience and indicated a preliminary preference for one candidate.
Mayor Jan Coleman and council members conducted the interview of Lisa Sanford, who said she has lived in Thornton about eight years and works as a contractor for health-care organizations. Sanford said she did not have fundraising experience but described negotiation and outreach skills she believes would help the board.
Council followed with a second interview of a candidate who identified herself as a retired art teacher with about 30 years of classroom experience and past service on TASHCO. That candidate said she teaches pottery at the active adult center and described prior fundraising experience with school art programs and community events.
Council discussion after the interviews included praise for the second candidate and a councilmember said, "it sounds like we have consensus on Shannon." Staff said they would discuss the applications and return to the mayor and council with a recommendation and follow up with candidates.
