Orland Park amends recreation refund policy to waive $5 medical withdrawal fee; transaction-fee language discussed

The Orland Park Village Board voted to amend the Recreation and Parks refund policy to eliminate a $5 per-program refund processing fee when a withdrawal is accompanied by documentation from a medical provider, and to charge a single processing fee for a multi-item transaction.

Trustee Radoshevsky moved to recommend that the Village Board approve amending Recreation and Parks refund policy number 4 as listed, eliminating the $5 fee when documentation from a medical provider is provided and to assess one $5 fee for a single transaction that includes multiple withdrawals. The motion was seconded and passed on a roll call vote with all present board members and the mayor voting aye.

During the staff presentation, Recreation staff described current practice — a $5 fee charged per program refund — and said the proposed change would improve customer service by reducing repeated per-program fees. Staff also stated they were seeking to "charge 1 $5 transaction fee" so multiple withdrawals in one transaction would incur a single fee. Earlier in the presentation a staff speaker also referred to a proposed $15 transaction fee while discussing customer-service objectives; that alternate figure appeared in staff remarks but the board motion recorded in the transcript specifies a single $5 transaction fee. The board approved the motion as moved.

Under the approved motion, medical withdrawals will no longer be charged the $5 per-program fee when a medical provider's documentation is submitted. The motion also reduces multiple per-program charges to a single transaction fee for multi-item withdrawals, as moved.
