Gardner City reports multiple resignations, temporary and new appointments across departments

Mayor Nicholson and staff reported that Nolan Buck, assistant director of veteran services, has resigned to become director of veteran services at Fitchburg State University. Megan Boudreau, a clerk in the health department (Lisonbee commission clerk), has also resigned. The assistant director veteran services role is posted; other positions are being filled or reviewed by department heads.
New hires and fills announced in the meeting include Susan Storm filling the administrative vacancy in Community Development and Planning following Christine Fusil's retirement; Eric Babin returning to the city as food and housing inspector following the passing of the previous inspector Eddie Montgomery; and Ronnie Card hired as evening maintenance staff at City Hall.
To address quorum and grant-timing issues, the mayor filed 60-day temporary appointments that will later be replaced by full appointments subject to council confirmation. Temporary appointments include Nick Summerhays and Brian Hall to the Conservation Commission; Veronica Patty, Katie Jablonski and Jason Stevens to the Cultural Council (to meet the state timeline for grant disbursement); Emma Chaitin to the Board of Health; and Eric Flint to the Planning Board to fill the vacancy left by the retirement of Bob Batez.
Officials also noted three anticipated police retirements in the coming fiscal year and said recruiting for those police posts is already posted; three firefighter candidates are currently at the academy and will be appointed by Chief Liguori upon graduation.
City leaders said filling the Cultural Council seats temporarily was necessary so the council could process grant paperwork and meet state deadlines for disbursing funds.
No formal motions or roll-call votes on these personnel updates were recorded in the transcript; several of the temporary appointments were filed by the mayor and will come to the committee for full appointment at a later time.
