Council accepts $120,000 Fulton County CDBG award for West Cleveland water-line upgrades

The East Point City Council voted to accept a $120,000 Fulton County Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) award to support phase 1 of a planned water-line replacement and upgrade on West Cleveland Avenue.
Melissa Echeverria, director of water and sewer, told the council the city applied to Fulton County’s CDBG program for fiscal years 2024–26. For 2024 the city was awarded $120,000 to be applied to West Cleveland Avenue; Echeverria said the total Phase 1 project cost is $430,000 and the broader, multi-phase request across the three-year application was $880,000. Councilmember Martin Rogers moved to accept the grant award and the motion passed.
Councilmember Atkins asked whether the $120,000 represented the entire Phase 1 funding or a portion; Echeverria confirmed the $120,000 is a portion of the Phase 1 $430,000 project cost and said the city will seek additional funding for subsequent phases in future fiscal years. The council approved opening the floor for discussion and then moved to accept the CDBG award for fiscal year 2024.
The council’s action enables the water resources department to proceed with design and procurement steps funded in part by the $120,000 CDBG award for West Cleveland Avenue.
