Dr. Devaughn Miles, a member of East Point’s Health Equity Community Advisory Board, told the City Council on March 3 that a photo-voice exhibit produced with Morehouse School of Medicine will preview at City Hall starting Wednesday, March 5, and run through March 20.
Miles said the full exhibit opens at the Arts Exchange on March 25 and will be on display through April 8, with Arts Exchange viewing hours Tuesday–Saturday, 10 a.m.–6 p.m. The City Hall preview will be available weekdays, 8 a.m.–5 p.m. After the Arts Exchange run, five photographs selected by the community advisory board will be framed and permanently installed at locations around the city; exact locations will be announced later.
The project
Miles said Morehouse partnered with East Point in 2021 on “Advancing Health Equity through Policy in East Point,” a project funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Local photographer Shonda Scott captured images that reflect residents’ responses and experiences; Miles said the exhibit will present a smaller number of photos than a prior showing to encourage deeper engagement with each image.
Nut graf: The exhibit is intended to highlight East Point residents’ stories about health equity gathered through a Morehouse School of Medicine project; a brief City Hall preview precedes the full Arts Exchange run and permanent installations around town.
Ending
Council members thanked Miles and the advisory board and said city communications will coordinate publicity and cross-promotion once final installation sites and times are confirmed.
