The Fountain City Council read proclamations at its March 11 meeting recognizing March as Brain Injury Awareness Month and Women’s History Month, and declaring the city’s intent to participate in America 250/Colorado150 commemoration activities through Dec. 31, 2026.
Councilmember Hinton introduced a proclamation on Brain Injury Awareness Month that called attention to the varying effects of brain injuries and urged community support for survivors, caregivers and related services. Councilmember Estes read a Women’s History Month proclamation noting historical contributions of American women and encouraging local observances.
Economic development specialist Nate Schull and Amy Long of Visit Colorado Springs presented background on the America 250/Colorado150 program, explaining it is tied to state enabling legislation (Senate Bill 2022-11) and statewide organizing efforts. The city’s proclamation pledges to “fully engage in commemorative activities” and cites the commission’s goal of inclusive events that emphasize historic preservation, education and community celebrations. The commission’s period of observance noted in the proclamation runs from July 4, 2025, through Dec. 31, 2026.
Council members spoke in support of the proclamations; no formal roll-call votes were recorded for the proclamations themselves during the meeting.
