The Fountain City Council swore in a new council member during its March 11 meeting, allowing the member to vote on council business immediately.
Mayor Sharon Thompson administered the oath while the new member, identified in the meeting as Marlon, repeated the pledge to support the U.S. and Colorado constitutions and the Fountain City Charter. Family members joined the new council member for photos after the ceremony.
The ceremonial swearing-in occurred immediately before roll call; the council recorded seven members present for the meeting. The oath and accompanying remarks appeared to conclude the ceremonial portion of the agenda and the meeting proceeded to presentations and regular business.
No formal vote was required for the oath; council moved on to the rest of the agenda following the ceremony.
