The Planning Board handled several administrative items at the March 12 meeting. The board approved an Approval‑Not‑Required (ANR) subdivision that reconfigures parcels around the planned hospital development on Hospital Road and related properties; the chair was authorized to endorse the plan. Planning staff said the layout aligns with the special‑permit approvals for the hospital project.
Separately, a petition to construct an addition that had been tabled in 2024 was withdrawn by the petitioner and the board approved the withdrawal without prejudice (vote 8–0), which allows the petitioner to return with a revised proposal at any time. Planning staff described this as procedural and noted the petitioner had been asked previously to pursue an easement discussion and provide additional documentation before the board would reconsider.
The board also received a short Community Preservation Committee update on city park projects: Malden River Works is delayed pending additional soil testing and minor redesigns; the early learning center playground is complete with sign work remaining; Linden Rink construction is complete with final softscape due in spring; and Fitzgerald Park design is complete with construction slated to begin in spring. The master‑plan steering committee will reconvene (requested by the council president) to review charter, committee composition and RFP timing; a meeting is scheduled for March 31 to discuss next steps.
Board actions: the ANR plan was approved by voice/roll‑call per staff recommendation; the petition withdrawal was accepted without prejudice by an 8–0 vote. Staff said the city will notify interested parties and the municipal clerk will post any required continued hearing or ANR filings.
