IT staff outlines cybersecurity work, upgrades and streaming metrics at committee meeting

At the Administration Communication Technology Committee meeting Tuesday at 5:30 p.m., an IT staff member delivered a monthly CISO report that summarized ongoing technology projects, cybersecurity activity and recent streaming metrics.

The report noted several active projects: workstation upgrades, a forthcoming mobile device management rollout, use of the borough’s existing access cards to manage parking‑garage security, and a multi‑month effort to implement a new agenda and meeting management service. "We're in the early stages of the agenda and meeting management service," the IT staff member said, adding that a kickoff meeting occurred in February.

The presenter also discussed planned audio upgrades for the council chambers and scheduled penetration testing in April to assess internal and external network security. "We're doing penetration testing next in April," the staff member said. The IT team described an upcoming pilot to "start building out our Copilot integration with staff" and said a small team would explore that next month.

Staff identified cross‑department projects including adding an ACH connection to the finance department’s ABILO software and supporting the police department’s Axon upgrade for body and in‑car cameras, which the presenter said included training coordination with Lieutenant Deets of the police department. The IT team also attends a monthly water and wastewater security threat briefing and reports findings to Sean Mitchell.

On public access and engagement metrics, the presenter said the department will begin including view counts for YouTube and Facebook streams in future reports; the packet included January and February numbers. "Nicole last month actually asked me a question nobody had really ever asked me, and that is what kind of views or listens do we get on our meetings on YouTube," the staff member said.

The cybersecurity section of the report included phishing test results and training initiatives. The presenter noted that the borough’s cybersecurity podcast moved to Apple Podcasts and that help‑desk and unscheduled event statistics would continue to be reported. The staff member closed by asking whether committee members had questions; none were raised.

The committee did not take formal action on the report during the meeting.
