Faculty and staff renew complaint about persistent leaks in NEIU D Building; single all‑gender restroom affected

Carper said those toilets are the only all‑gender restrooms in the D Building and that flooding forces trans and nonbinary students and faculty to seek other buildings during precipitation events.
Carper described repeated on‑site responses by facilities staff using buckets and chairs to manage leaks and said the visible conditions create a poor first impression for prospective students and families. “We know where the leaks are. We know where the cracks are because they're still there,” she said, telling trustees she has repeatedly reported the problem and urged investment to stop the recurring damage.
Committee members thanked Carper for raising the issue; administrators acknowledged deferred maintenance needs discussed elsewhere in the meeting and included facilities repairs among budgetary tradeoffs the university is balancing.
