Commissioners agree to sign letter supporting Watch Communications FEAD/BEAD application for northern-county fiber

Aaron Miller of Watch Communications asked the board for a county letter of support for a federal Broadband Equity, Access and Deployment (BEAD/FEED) application focused on northern Adams County. The commissioners approved providing the letter and asked staff to place it on county letterhead for signature.
Aaron described a fiber-only application that would pass roughly 3,000 homes in the county's north and aims to serve about 1,500 funding-eligible addresses (areas designated by federal data as unserved or underserved). He said the company narrowed its proposal to the northern portion because the grant round accepts only fiber-only projects and because lower rural densities in the county's southern areas would make the cost per funded address less competitive.
Aaron said the proposed build would total roughly 270 miles of fiber and that subsequent grant rounds could allow hybrid fiber/wireless approaches for harder-to-serve southern areas. Commissioners voted 2-0 to sign the requested letter of support; staff will place the letter on county letterhead and provide it to Watch Communications for submission.
