Adams County wins $1.5 million Community Crossings grant for Route 180 and County Road 300 North

Adams County staff announced at the March 4 commissioners meeting that the county was awarded $1,500,000 through the Community Crossings matching grant program to construct Route 180 and to build the section of County Road 300 North from U.S. 27 to 700 West.

Nate (staff member) told the board both projects the county submitted received the full amounts requested. He said he is awaiting a final breakdown showing how the $1.5 million will be divided between the two projects. Commissioners discussed potential legislative changes to the Community Crossings program, including adjustments to local-match requirements being considered by state legislators.

Nate noted the state is discussing minimum wheel-tax or local road-funding requirements that can affect eligibility for Community Crossings awards. He said proposals under consideration could change match ratios (for example, shifting from a 75/25 match to an 80/20 split) and that such changes would affect county budgeting for future projects.

Nate also updated the board that the county is awaiting federal-aid announcements on other projects and that competition for those funds is strong.

The commissioners did not take a formal vote on the grant announcement itself; staff reported the award and said they would return with details when the state provides a final breakdown.
