Ashley Barr told the board the district will begin kindergarten registration for the 2025–26 school year with a public kickoff event on Tuesday, March 11, from 5 to 7 p.m.
Barr said the district coordinates the kickoff with Asheboro City Schools so families who live on boundary lines can be directed to the correct system, and the district will advertise through community partners including the public library, Communities In Schools, the Partnership for Children and school marquees. Amber Ward will post registration materials districtwide by Feb. 17 and the schools will distribute flyers and put information on marquees and newsletters in February and March.
Barr said registration will continue after the kickoff; families unable to attend March 11 may register directly at their assigned school beginning March 12. The district recorded about 60 percent of its kindergarten enrollment at registration events last year, she said.
Board members asked about capacity and teacher allotments; staff said those logistical details remain subject to annual staffing and budgeting processes but that schools are prepared to register students and follow up as needed. No formal action was taken at the work session.
