Randolph County schools revise calendar after weather disruptions; board approves swapping teacher day and student day

The Randolph County School System board voted to revise the 2024–25 calendar after several weather‑related closures and delays. The board approved three calendar changes: make Wednesday, Jan. 22, a student day (the last day of the first semester), convert Feb. 6 from a 12:30 p.m. early release to a full instructional day, and keep March 27 as the remaining early‑release professional development day.

Superintendent (Dr. Daniel) and staff said the district has used four of five inclement‑weather days set aside for the year and that the proposed changes restore instructional time without requiring extensive rescheduling later in the spring. Staff noted concerns about high schools administering exams and the limited usefulness of remote days for some secondary assessments.

Board members discussed family impacts and the value of in‑person instruction for students who rely on school meals and services. One board member emphasized that in‑person days preserve instructional continuity and support for students who depend on school meals and other services.
