Board reviews draft 2026–27 calendar; 2025–26 calendar to return for approval March 25

The Columbia Heights Public Schools Board reviewed two school-year calendars March 11: a finalized 2025–26 calendar set to appear on the March 25 consent agenda, and a draft 2026–27 calendar that would begin school before Labor Day pending required waivers.
Director Bennett told the board the 2025–26 calendar is substantially the same as the draft presented last year, with one swap of an in-service day and a flex learning day. The draft 2026–27 calendar would move the start date to before Labor Day to reduce late-June instruction days; Bennett said the district will apply for a waiver related to construction timing. The draft also keeps a two-week winter break and proposes spring break during the first full week of April.
Board members said families appreciate multi-year calendar visibility for planning. Bennett said the district will review the draft again next spring and can revise it if necessary. The final 2025–26 calendar will be on the board’s March 25 consent agenda for approval; no vote was held at the March 11 meeting.
