Trustees on March 11 received a first reading of proposed revisions to Policy EIC (local) that would add the UTRGV Collegiate Academy as a dual-enrollment campus whose summer-school grades may be included in class-rank calculations.
Dr. Albert Canales, chief human resources officer, and Dr. De Hoyos explained the requested change would let students who take dual-enrollment classes through UTRGV have those summer courses counted in class-rank calculations when the classes align with graduation plans. Dr. De Hoyos said the measure was aimed at students who needed to repeat English 1301 in summer so they could stay on sequence, and the revision would permit that summer grade to be included without creating an out-of-sequence classification for other courses. “These are not classes that are out of sequence. It will be part of the graduation plan,” Dr. De Hoyos said.
Administration characterized this as a first reading; trustees were reminded a second reading will be required before final approval.
