Todd, city administrator, presented a request from the All School Reunion committee seeking city assistance for a reunion event in early July 2025. The event is planned in the First National Bank parking lot and adjacent area; the packet included a resolution staff recommended with a small modification.
Staff said the reunion organizers requested a partial closure of Grama Street from the alley to Third Street in past years, but staff recommended again that the council not approve that closure because it could create traffic congestion onto Minnesota Avenue and present pedestrian safety issues near a new brewery and other development.
Todd said staff’s preferred approach is to keep Grama Street open and move vendors to Third Street so pedestrian traffic is funneled to the corner at Third Street rather than across an alley or roadway.
Council member Josh asked whether the closure was intended to use private parking; staff said vendors can be sited on Third Street adjacent to the bank’s parking area. The council moved to remove the provision allowing a portion of Grama Street to be closed and approved the amended resolution by roll call (Council member Perez, Council member Weisenfeld, Council member Scharstrom, Mayor Noel and Council member Johnson voting aye).
