Jackson identified the trees as American sweet gum and said their seed balls and sap are a nuisance that damage cars and that roots are lifting the sidewalk. She said city crews had visited, cut some limbs and told her the trees were not dead, but she said the limb removal did not solve the problem.
"This tree is an American sweet gum tree, and the fruit and the sap is all over the street...When the balls hit your car, they put dents in your car," Jackson said. She asked why the city will remove trees on nearby streets but not on Crest and said she had spoken with street-maintenance personnel several times and that three staff members had inspected the trees.
