The Norman City Council on March 11 acknowledged a mayoral proclamation naming March 18, 2025, as Public Transit Professional Appreciation Day and recognized transit staff at the meeting.
Taylor Johnson, Parking and Transit Program Manager, thanked the council and highlighted transit staff who attended the meeting, naming bus operators and supervisors. Johnson said ridership is growing: “We were on pace to be a little less than 500,000 this up from that 429,000 so we're excited about where transit going to go in Norman.”
The council acknowledgment followed a proclamation read by the mayor that noted City of Norman Public Transit Services travel in excess of 530,000 miles and facilitate more than 429,000 passenger trips annually. Johnson asked the public to express appreciation to transit employees and introduced named staff in attendance, including Lorinda Wells (bus operator), Eddie Trimble (route supervisor), Scott Nichols (fueling/washing), and Antoinice Jamerson (Via Norman on-demand service representative).
The motion to acknowledge the proclamation passed unanimously; the action was ceremonial and no policy or funding change was recorded in the meeting minutes.
