Laredo Mud Fiesta set for Saturday at Jobecinta Park with free obstacle course and mental-health fair

Organizers updated the committee that the Laredo Mud Fiesta — a free obstacle-course event with an accompanying mental-health resource fair — will be held Saturday at Jobecinta (Bartlett) Park.

Ricardo Quijano, speaking for Randy Villanueva, said the opening ceremony is scheduled for 7:30 a.m. and the main course will begin at 8 a.m. He said the event includes a mental-health and wellness resource fair with more than 30 vendor booths, a kids course, family activities such as tug-of-war and face painting, food vendors and free hot dogs for attendees.

Quijano said the event is free to the public and that students, service members and veterans are encouraged to participate; many JROTC/GROTC students will be involved. He noted that online registration had closed, but he planned an in‑person registration session Thursday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at EJ’s Tattoos, 104 E. Carlton St., Suite 107, for last-minute sign-ups and waiver signing. Organizers stressed that participants need signed waivers and that bracelets will identify registered participants for access to specific course elements.

Organizers said they will try to accommodate late registrations on event day but cautioned that staffing and waiver-witness requirements may limit last-minute on-site sign-ups. The committee was told the event will run a children’s course mirroring the adult course and will include family-oriented activities and resource connections for veterans and the general public.

No formal committee action was taken on the announcement; organizers asked that committee members spread the word about the free community event.
