Lee's Summit committee reviews draft fair housing impediments report; public comment period set for March–April

The Community and Economic Development Committee reviewed a draft Analysis of Impediments to Fair housing Choice on Feb. 12, 2025, as part of the city’s five‑year consolidated‑plan process required by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Consultant Jessica Fish of Mosaic Community Planning presented the draft; Amy Nasif, interim director of development, introduced the item.

The draft report, which the city will post for public comment from March through April 2025 at lsconplan.com, identifies several principal impediments to equal housing access in Lee's Summit: a limited supply of affordable housing for low‑ and moderate‑income households, gaps in housing and services to address homelessness, a limited supply of accessible units for people with disabilities, constrained household incomes and resources, and limited coordination and outreach for fair‑housing education and enforcement. Jessica Fish said, “We’ve been working with the city on these plans for more than a year,” and described community outreach that produced maps, survey data and stakeholder interviews.
