The Scottsburg City Board of Public Works and Safety approved a contract with consultant Michael Kleinpeter at its March 2025 meeting for a water improvement project tied to a $750,000 grant awarded to the city.
Board members said the $750,000 award was one of nine statewide and will fund replacement or extension of water mains, including continuation of 12‑inch main work to improve system reliability. Officials noted the city previously used ARPA funds to install a 12‑inch line on part of the route and that this contract advances the next phase southward.
At the meeting a board member described the grant and the city’s past work: “Scottsburg got a $750,000 grant for water.” The board stated that the grant award has been received but that the local match amount and timing of the matching funds were not finalized at the meeting.
The motion to approve the consultant contract was made by Tom Lewis and seconded by Karen Bridges. The board approved the contract by voice vote; all present responded “aye.” City staff said they had not yet received the matching funds and will return with details on match amounts and procurement steps.
Officials said the project will address older pipe sections along State Road 31 and continue replacements from prior work that extended west from Westlake Road. The board described the project as part of an ongoing effort to reduce breaks and improve pressure across the municipal system.
The board directed staff to report back with information on the match funding and recommended alignment before moving to bidding and construction.
